Students in Years 7 and 9 will be participating in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) Online Examinations. The NAPLAN examinations are operated by the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority (ACARA); the school is required to organise each test.
This year the exams will be occurring during from Tuesday May 11 – Friday May 21

The tests will be held in the school computer rooms and library for most EHS students. Students will attend regular lessons before and/or after their examinations.
Students will need to bring basic writing materials (2B pencils, pens, eraser and pencil sharpener) to all exams, and must bring a calculator for the Numeracy test.
Students are also required to bring their own wired earphones.

The NAPLAN tests were introduced in 2008 for all Australian students in school Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The tests are operated by the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority (ACARA); the school is required to organise each test. Students complete 5 separate tests that assess their skills in literacy and numeracy.
These tests are used as diagnostic instruments to help school staff identify the current level of literacy and numeracy for each student. The test results provide overall scale scores against national standards, plus more specific diagnostic information on sub-sections of literacy and numeracy (such as sentence construction, reading and spelling simple and complex words, identifying information from a data table, etc.
The EHS Learning Support Team reviews and tracks student test data from year to year. We use this information to identify students who may benefit from some of the many learning support programs run at the school. Learning Support and Executive staff can review individual student responses and answers to analyse for patterns or areas of difficulty, and read and view scanned copies of student responses. NAPLAN results also provide valuable information to each student’s classroom teachers who can use this data to inform their teaching practices.
The NAPLAN tests are set and marked outside this school. In August, each student will receive an individual statement of their results. Each student’s level of achievement will be reported against national minimum standards, which have been adopted by all Australian Education Minister. The test results are provided to the school and are used help to support learning and teaching programs. Collective results (averages and growth graphs) for each school are published on the MySchool website.
Each student at Engadine High School who sits the examinations are expected to make a serious attempt of all questions to the best of their ability. The experience of going through major examination processes will help prepare students for major exams in Years 10 and 11, and the Higher School Certificate itself. As the results and information from the tests are considered very valuable and important, Engadine High School will maintain its level of high expectations of students at all times in learning and assessment.
