Last week, in a thrilling opening round of the Buckley Shield competition, the Engadine High U/14s Rugby League Team faced off against Jannali High School at Old Bush Rd Yarrawarrah. The match was nothing short of a rollercoaster, with Engadine finding themselves trailing 12-0 at halftime against a strong Jannali side.

As the players gathered around for an inspirational halftime chat, led by the SuperCoach and the dedicated Year 12 sports coaching students, Daniel and Levi, a new energy seemed to ignite within the Engadine team.

Despite facing a Jannali side with size and strength, Engadine began to gain momentum early in the second half with a try in corner by Zeppelin. The turning point came with a clutch moment of brilliance from Lawson Denyer, as he coolly slotted a conversion kick from the sideline, narrowing the scoreline 6-12 and sparking hope for the Engadine faithful.

The momentum continued to build as Chace Nisbet, with grit and determination, rolled up his sleeves in the closing moments of the match. Making powerful line breaks and showing incredible speed, Nisbet secured a well-deserved try, closing the gap making the score 12-12 and setting the stage for an epic comeback.

But the drama was far from over. With the match hanging in the balance, it was Fletcher Abeltt and Corey Hayward who seized the moment, showcasing their speed and agility in a breathtaking 70-plus-meter try leaving defenders in their wake as he crossed over for the match-winning try.

Overcoming the odds to secure a thrilling 18-12 victory over Jannali High School , It was a testament to the Engadines team resilience, fighting spirit, and the unwavering support from their coaches and supporters. On to the next round!!
