Vocational Education and Training (VET)

VET at Engadine High

VET (Vocational Education and Training) courses are available for study by students as part of their School Certificate or Higher School Certificate. Almost all VET in Schools courses lead to nationally recognised Australian Quality Training Framework (AQF) qualifications, either certificates or statements of attainment. Some courses also include work placement. These courses can provide a head start towards a career and pathways to further study.

VET courses are delivered to students by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). These can be their schools, colleges of TAFE NSW or other private RTOs. They require mandatory workplace learning where students will complete 70 hours of Work placement usually in their preliminary year. Students will receive credentials which could include Statement of Attainment or Certificate I, II or III. They may contribute to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) when students sit for the optional HSC exam.

Construction  Pathways

Students have the opportunity to produce practical work that develops skills in competencies necessary for the Construction Industry.

This 2 year course offers students the opportunity to attain a CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways.

Students have the opportunity to produce practical work that develops skills in competencies necessary for the Construction Industry.

Competencies include: Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry; plan and organise work; conduct workplace communication; carry out measurements and calculations; read and interpret plans and specifications; apply OHS requirements; policies and procedures in the construction industry; use carpentry tools and equipment; handle carpentry materials; erect and dismantle formwork for footings and slabs on ground; apply basic levelling procedures; carry out concreting to simple forms.

Students in Construction Pathways have completed projects for the school that improve the wellbeing of students such as student tables, concreting for the BBQ COLA area as well as tiling and utilising equipment across a wide range of competencies.

Entertainment Industry

This 2 year course offers students the opportunity to attain a Certificate III in Live Production and Services, which is a recognised TAFE qualification

This 2 year course offers students the opportunity to attain Statement of Attainment towards CUA30420 Certificate III in Live Production and Services, which is a recognised TAFE qualification. Students are given opportunities to work both at school with our state of the art equipment and also in Entertainment Industry work placements to attain knowledge and skills in sound, lighting, staging and vision based competencies.

Competencies include:

  • Undertake live audio operations
  • Operate Basic Lighting
  • Operate Vision Systems
  • Assist with production operations for live performances
  • Work Effectively backstage during performances
  • Operate sound reinforcement systems
  • Assist with bump in and bump out of shows
  • Use power tools or hand held operations
  • Install and operate follow spots
  • Participate in collaborative creative projects
  • Apply work health and safety practices - including attaining a white card
  • Work effectively in the creative arts industry

Hospitality Food and Beverage

Students have the opportunity to work in a complete stainless steel industry standard kitchen onsite. 

This 2 year course offers students the opportunity to attain a SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality - Food and Beverage

Competencies include: Work effectively with others and interact with customers; use hospitality skills effectively; show social and cultural sensitivity; participate in safe work practices; use hygienic practices for food safety; prepare and serve espresso coffee; serve food and beverage; prepare and serve non-alcoholic beverages; clean premises and equipment; participate in environmentally sustainable work practices and safe food handling practices; use food preparation equipment and prepare sandwiches.

All of these competencies are often enhanced by the Hospitality students cooking, serving and interacting with people in school events such as BBQ cook up days for the local primary students or the Probus meetings held at the school.

Sport Coaching

This two year course offers students the opportunity to attain a Certificate III in Sport Coaching, which is a recognised TAFE qualification.

This 2 year course offers students the opportunity to attain a SIS30519 Certificate III in Sport Coaching, which is a recognised TAFE qualification. Students will be provided with the opportunity to develop a range of personal and organisational skills to ensure they provide opportunities for all participants to love physical activity. In addition, students will gain further accreditation in First Aid, Rugby League and Basketball.

Competencies include:

  • Organise and complete daily work activities
  • Provide first aid
  • Develop and update knowledge of coaching practices
  • Coach beginner or novice participants to develop fundamental motor skills
  • Communicate effectively with others in a sport environment
  • Assist in preparing and conducting sport and recreation sessions
  • Develop and update sport, fitness and recreation industry knowledge
  • Follow work health and safety policies
  • Teach the fundamental skills of athletics
  • Teach fundamental basketball skills
  • Teach fundamental basketball tactics and game strategy
  • Interpret and apply the rules of basketball
  • Teach the skills of Rugby League for modified games
  • Officiate games or competitions
  • Implement sports injury prevention
