Aboriginal Dance Workshop

Aboriginal dance workshop

Our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and families came together for a truly special event – the Secondary Aboriginal Dance Workshop, an initiative of The Arts Unit.

The day began with a heartwarming welcome performance led by our very own students, setting the tone for a day filled with cultural celebration and learning. We proudly acknowledged the traditional custodians of the land with our new Acknowledgement of Country.

We were thrilled to welcome 40 students from 14 different schools, all eager to immerse themselves in the world of Aboriginal dance. Under the guidance of tutors from the Bangarra Youth Program, our students engaged in a rigorous warm-up and training program, honing their skills and embracing the essence of Indigenous dance.

A huge congratulations to Mirren and Charlotte, who showcased exceptional talent and dedication, earning them a spot in the next stage of consideration for the NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event possible – from our talented students and dedicated tutors, our teachers and to our supportive community members. Together, we continue to celebrate and preserve the rich culture and traditions of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage.
