Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs Exhibition

Smiling students

Year 7 had an awesome day at the Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs exhibition at the Australian Museum. The exhibition, a perfect complement to our Year 7 History course, brought to life the wonders of the New Kingdom period and one of history's most fascinating figures - Ramses II!

We had the chance to explore the life and accomplishments of Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great, who ruled Egypt for an astonishing 67 years – the second longest reign for any pharaoh, living to the impressive age of 92 years. There were 182 priceless artefacts, including the sarcophagus of Ramses II - one of the most impressive royal coffins from ancient Egypt ever discovered! Students were able to see other treasures and one-of-a-kind relics, some of which had never left Egypt before. They dove into the stunningly preserved collection of artefacts, including sarcophagi, animal mummies, magnificent jewellery, spectacular royal masks, exquisite amulets, and ornate golden treasures of the tomb, showcasing the superb workmanship of Egyptian artisans.

There was also an artefact selfie competition in which the students eagerly participated - we'll announce the winners next week!

They also got to explore other exhibitions in the museum, such as the dinosaur room and ancient Australia.

It was a great day for all involved and our students did themselves and the school proud with their curiosity, engagement and behaviour.
